Just because you are expecting, doesn’t mean you can’t still follow the latest trends. It may be a bit trickier as many maternity brands choose not to do ‘trends’ in their collections, but instead go for more timeless styles. But a pregnant woman wants to be in fashion just as much as a non-pregnant one – and why shouldn’t she?
One trend standing out on the SS19 runway this season was the Utility trend. The colour palette was made up of neutral, earthy tones; beige, khaki, sand and tan and everyone from Burberry to Max Mara and Ferragamo to Stella McCartney covered it.
Utility’s function is “useful-ness”. Clothes that are practical. It consists of cargo trousers, trench coats and possibly the biggest piece of the season; the boiler-suit. All these pieces transfer surprisingly easily into maternity wear. Many items feature belted or drawstring waist details (ideal for a bump) loose trousers and jackets that can be worn open as your bump gets bigger. Or button up shirt dresses which are great for breastfeeding in. Accessories such as slider style sandals and backpacks (ideal style for a changing bag) feature strongly making it a fully wearable trend whilst you’re pregnant. This trend is a Mum’s dream, clothes that are both practical and pleasing!
Never has a collection of clothes been so well suited for a new Mum (apart from maybe the amount of cream and beige, but we’ll ignore that for the time being!)
